Opium Museum

Itinerary:
We shall travel to Mae Chan 40km away, and uphill to visit Yao and Akha Hilltribe Villages. Continue up Doi Mae Salong to Santi Kiri KMT Yunan Chinese Refugee settlement, with its tea and coffee plantations and also a co-op store where homemade wines, medical herbs and other locally grown products are sold. The villagers are ethnic Chinese, descendents of KMT Nationalist Chinese army regiment that took refuge in Thailand almost 50 years ago when the Communist Forces won the civil war in mainland China. Doi Mae Salong enjoys a cool and refreshing climate all year round.
From here, we shall visit the Akha hilltribe at Lor Cha Village. Lunch is served at a local restaurant.
After lunch, we continue the drive to Mae Sai, the Thai-Burma trading border, to explore a local market that is famous for products from Southern China, Burma and Laos. We then proceed to the Golden Triangle where the tri-borders of Thailand, Burma and Laos meet. Here, we enjoy an educational visit to the Opium Museum.
Finally, we continue our journey to the old capital of Chiang Saen, located on the steep bank of Mae Khong River opposite to Laos and dating back to AD 1260. There are some magnificent ancient ruins and temples here.

Long-necked Karen

Itinerary:
We shall travel to Mae Chan 40km to visit the Long-necked Karen in the Padong Hilltribe Village, at Baan Ya Pha. We then trek 10 minutes into the jungle to visit the new settlement village of Padong that houses people who have newly migrated from Southern Burma only a few years ago. We shall also visit some small shops that promote handicrafts made by the Long-necked Karen such as hand-woven clothes, weaving baskets and silver ornaments.
Lunch is served at a local restaurant.

Elephant ride

We shall enjoy a long-tail boat trip up the Kok River to Baan Ruam Mitr Karen Hilltribe village where we experience an exciting 30 minutes of elephant ride through the jungle and country side.
Lunch is served at a local restaurant.

We travel to the Mae Chan district to visit the Yao hilltribe village at Baan Pa Kam. Next we visit the Akha hilltribe village at Baan Lor Cha where we can witness their local lifestyle and culture. Wat Phra Kaew

Wat Rong Khun |
Itinerary:
We visit Wat Phra Thad Doi Jom Thong on the hill top overlooking Chiang Rai city with its navel pillars. Next we visit Wat Phra Kaew Chiang Rai where the famous Emerald Buddha (in Bangkok) was founded in 1434 and Wat Phra Sing. Then we visit Oub Kham Museum with its collections of valuable artifacts from the Lanna Kingdoms. We continue on to visit the Hilltribes Museum where we can enjoy learning about the tribal cultures and shop for some interesting hilltribe products.
We shall stop by to see the King Meng Rai Monument that commemorates the founder of Chiang Rai in 1262. We then ascend to the hill top of Wat Phra Thad Doi Kao Kway to enjoy a panoramic view of Chiang Rai city. Next, we visit Wat Rong Khun, also called "The White Temple" where it contains murals and paintings of Buddha image, and painted enamel ceramic floor. The exterior of the temple is decorated with tiny pieces of mirror that make the building sparkles and shines under the sunlight.
